Higher Education Teaching Certificate Program (HETC)

The Higher Education Teaching Certificate is designed for current graduate studies or honours students, or recent alumni wanting to prepare for teaching responsibilities in a university setting. It is intended to be an introduction to the teaching culture of academia, providing a foundation for the theory and practice of higher education and pedagogy. This certificate emphasizes course preparation, communication and presentation skills.

This part time program includes two 18 hour courses and a student-designed practicum.

Objectives

  • To provide graduate or honours students or recent alumni with the theory and practice to teach in a university setting

Outcomes

  • Introduce the theory and practice of higher education pedagogy, including course preparation, presentation, interaction and evaluation skills
  • Develop teaching and presentation skills
  • Refine preparation and presentation skills through practical application in a student-designed practicum experience

Additional Comments

The length of this program does NOT allow for application of a study visa. Only international students who are currently studying at the University of Winnipeg will be considered for this program.

Faculty of Graduate Studies students and alumni who graduated within one year of application receive a reduced tuition of $100 per course. All other students will pay $300 per course.
