Ab Freig: Instructor

Ab was the President and CEO of Puratone, a $154 million privately held company with 350 full-time employees.  Under his leadership, Puratone was recognized as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies in 2006 and was highly regarded in North America for its reputation of operational excellence and for being a good corporate citizen. Currently, Ab is the President of ActivTek Environmental Solutions Canada, which specializes in marketing residential and commercial indoor air quality products, as well as the CEO of a biotech start-up with plans to produce nutritional supplements. With over thirty years’ of business experience, Ab has extensive leadership attributes, especially in the areas of strategic planning, strategy execution, financial management, employee development, and public relations.

Ab has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alexandria (1977) and a Master of Science from the University of Manitoba (1984). In addition, he has attended several executive education courses at Ivey School of Business and Harvard Business School. Ab is the past Chair of the Young Presidents and World President Organization International – Manitoba Chapter. He currently serves on the boards of several not-for-profit organizations, including the Art Mauro Centre for Peace and Justice at the University of Manitoba as the Vice Chair of the Board. He is also the Vice Chair of the Board for Opportunities for Employment Organization (OFE) and Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee for the Board of Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCOM). As a contract instructor at the University of Winnipeg, Ab plays a key role as a mentor for several university students and young entrepreneurs. Ab’s extracurricular activities include travelling, reading, playing squash, and running.
