This is the first in a series of three courses covering the JavaScript programming language and introduces the basics of JavaScript for web development application. This hands-on course builds from the HTML5/CSS3 courses and focuses on topics such as forms, images, and the Document Object Model (DOM). It will also introduce the code conventions and rules of the JavaScript language.

Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of client-side JavaScript, including core programming practices, constructs, and syntax;
  • Debug JavaScript and apply common scripting techniques;
  • Describe the Document Object Model (DOM);
  • Develop basic web pages with interactive content;
  • Use programming variables and functions;
  • Make programmatic decisions based on user input;
  • Use JavaScript to modify and validate forms.
