The Introduction to UNIX course will introduce web development students to the basics of UNIX administration. The course will focus on the command line interface and topics will include creating, uploading, and editing files on a UNIX server over SSH or other remote connections.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Log in and out of their Unix accounts
  • Change the account password
  • Work with files and directories on a Unix server
  • Create and edit text files on a remote server
  • Explain Unix users and groups
  • Define, set, and change file permissions
  • State what a Unix shell is and how to change it
  • Perform other tasks, depending on time
