This course will examine normal speech and language development, factors that affect the acquisition of language, and how a child’s language will impact the acquisition of academic skills, specifically in the areas of school readiness and language arts. The course will also provide information on various language disorders and review strategies which will aid in the child’s acquisition of language.  This course is highly interactive and skills based. It is a “hands-on” approach to learning.

  • To provide a basic understanding of language development and factors that affect the acquisition of language skills

Outcomes

  • Knowledge about the impact language has on the acquisition of language skills specifically in the areas of school readiness and language arts
  • Knowledge of strategies to stimulate language development
