This is a practical, hands-on project where student create a complete online database solution to a practical problem. The objective is to develop an awareness of the issues involved in creating an online database and the forms required to administer it.  The project provides a challenging finale to the first block of the web development courses, requiring students to use the full spectrum of their knowledge and skills acquired during MySQL and the PHP programming courses, as well as knowledge and skills acquired during previous courses in the Web Development program.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Apply project management skills acquired in previous courses
  • Create a logical database design
  • Create a physical database design in MYSQL
  • Manage and maintain data using the MySQL database
  • Create a website application that integrates PHP with MySQL to manage the MySQL database
  • Analyze challenges and devise practical solutions to common programming problems
