Risk Assessment and Treatment (ARM 55) is one of the courses required to earn the Associate in Risk Management or Certified Risk Manager Certificate (ARM/CRM) designations. The course provides the reader with a comprehensive overview of the techniques and measures available to control the risks from property, personnel, liability and net income loss exposures.  Subjects treated include, choosing the best risk control techniques and measures, system safety analysis, and staff motivational theories for effective implementation of risk control measures.


On completion of this course, students will:

  • Identify and explain accident causation and fundamental risk control techniques;
  • Apply risk control techniques and measures to property (chattels, real property and intellectual property), personnel, liability and net income loss exposures;
  • Apply system safety analysis to identify potential losses and to determine the causes of losses that have already occurred;
  • Explain how to motivate staff to apply risk control measures and how to monitor the effectiveness of such measures.
