Alan Braverman : Student Success Story

Despite having a university degree in computer science, Alan Braverman had not worked in the field for over a decade. The Web Development Diploma program delivered through Professional, Applied and Continuing Education (PACE) at The University of Winnipeg gave him the up-to-date skills he needed to land his dream career.

“I had a programming background, but it was from very long ago, and demonstrating that I could perform the work was difficult,” says Alan, who was working as an audio engineer before studying at PACE. “Now being able to build websites with new techniques has enhanced my portfolio and really helped me find employment.”

He learned the latest programming languages and concepts, and was able to get a feel for real-world employment and projects through an included internship. Practical work provided the perfect outlet for Alan, a natural problem-solver. “Coming up with ideas for applications on my websites and trying to figure out the solutions to making them work was what I really enjoyed.”

Alan also valued the connections he was able to make with his classmates, and credits the small class sizes for fostering a productive work environment. “The instructors are great, too, and feel more like peers than teachers,” he adds.

Alan is now employed as a client success specialist with BOLD Commerce.
