Samantha Pomareda: Student Success Story

Samantha Pomareda is passionate about helping others. That’s why she enrolled in PACE’s Human Resource Management program as a mature student after a nearly 20-year career with CancerCare Manitoba.

“I came to a point where I needed a new and rewarding role in my life,” Pomareda said. “Having family responsibilities, I wanted a program that could ensure a successful new beginning for my life.”

Pomareda has achieved her goal and is working as a Human Resources Generalist with Running Deer Resources, a Winnipeg-based Indigenous employment, recruitment, and engagement firm that she interned with during her PACE experience.

“I assist in removing systemic barriers that, as an Indigenous person, I myself have faced,” she said. “I really wanted to use my diploma in a proactive way to help the Indigenous population gain employment.”

Pomareda credits the PACE program with helping her find her voice and become more confident in her abilities — two things that have empowered her to take on leadership roles as a strategic partner and lead human resource manager for capital projects within Running Deer.

Her favourite part of studying at PACE was the streamlined design of the curriculum and the staff and instructors who truly want to see students succeed.
