This course is designed for students who are planning to take post-secondary courses and do not have previous university education. Participants will learn various aspects of academic writing, including the rhetorical situation, the writing process, effective research techniques, and proper documentation.

Outcomes

On completion of this course, participants will:

  • Understand the necessary elements of and academic requirements for writing at a university level
  • Develop the research skills, organizational systems, and brainstorming techniques to synthesize information and enable successful work
  • Write an outline
  • Use documentation styles properly
  • Use elements of style and language appropriate for academic writing
Additional Comments

PLEASE NOTE:

This is a required seminar for all certificate and diploma students who do not hold an undergraduate degree, or those who may need to further develop their academic writing skills. If you are required to take this, please do so at the front end of your course load. See the timetable for the next available session.
