This course establishes competency with modern Big Data platforms that are often needed to support the large data volumes associated with data science applications. The use of NoSQL databases combined with distributed storage platforms and map-reduce processing capabilities are covered.

  • Database & Programming Essentials
Outcomes

On completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Describe the architecture of modern Big Data platforms and how these differ from traditional architecture
  • Explain how Big Data platforms differ from traditional systems in their design and construction
  • Describe when to use different types of NoSQL databases
  • Explain current processing challenges of Big Data
  • Implement solutions to store and process data using one or more prominent Big Data platforms
