This course introduces students to essential digital design tools, exploring the industry-standard Adobe Creative Cloud, its main applications, tools and assets, and user-friendly platforms like Canva. Students will establish a robust foundation in design principles and apply them to create digital design layouts. Through practical projects, students will acquire the technical and creative skills necessary for producing professional-grade visuals, using design concepts and technical knowledge across various mediums, equipping them for real-world creative challenges.

Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the Adobe Creative Cloud interface and the applications, tools, and assets included in the student’s plan.
  • Identify the interfaces of industry-standard Adobe software like Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, defining key functions and tools common to these main applications.
  • Explore Canva, its interface, key functions and tools.
  • Utilize Digital design tools to create visually compelling designs, including posters, social media graphics, logos, and print layouts.
  • Implement appropriate file settings, resolution, and export options for various design outputs.
  • Recognize common file formats and their appropriate uses in digital and print design.
  • Explain fundamental design principles such as hierarchy, color theory, typography, and alignment. Describe the differences between raster and vector graphics and their applications in design projects.
  • Evaluate design projects by identifying areas of improvement related to contrast, alignment, proximity, and repetition.
  • Justify design decisions by articulating the relationship between tools, techniques, and intended audience impact.
