Corporate scandals have eroded public trust in leadership, making it increasingly important to address the demands of ethical leadership. This course provides students with a contemporary understanding of the principles and frameworks that guide ethical decision-making in managerial and workplace contexts. By exploring the intersection of ethics and corporate social responsibility, students will gain insights into how businesses can harness shared value opportunities to gain a competitive edge and enhance their public image. Through the analysis of current business cases, students will develop a comprehensive grasp of personal integrity, the dynamics of managerial authority, and effective leadership approaches.

Outcomes

On completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Understand the concept of ethics, the major ethical theories, and their application to real-world business environments.
  • Evaluate the repercussions of ethical lapses on stakeholders, employees, customers, shareholders, and the broader society, considering their financial, reputational, and legal implications.
  • Learn the practical application of theoretical concepts in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and ethics to business challenges.
  • Understand the concept and dimensions of CSR, and its significance in today’s business environment.
  • Realize the critical roles of business and individuals (leaders and employees) when it comes to ethical decision making.
  • Develop a clear understanding of their own ethical principles, values, and beliefs, and be able to articulate them effectively in the context of business ethics.
