This course will provide an introduction to construction plans and drafting. Students will be exposed to construction drawings, learning how to read, interpret, and utilize them in various capacities, including construction, engineering, and architecture. Students will be shown how to produce hand sketching and computer-aided design (CAD) drafting, including line work, material symbols, industry conventions and techniques.
Each course fee is paid for at the time of registration.
Outcomes
- On completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Create accurate time and cost estimates for construction projects during the planning phase
- Effectively communicate project information to draftsperson
- Effectively communicate information from construction drawings for inclusion in project planning documents and presentations
- Produce basic drawings for cost and scheduling purposes
- Compare quality specifications
- Read and interpret constructions plans to identify requirements, measure dimensions
