A Lean Yellow Belt professional understands the Lean philosophy and how to routinely apply it to their job and area of responsibility. After completing this course, participants will be able to explain to others how Lean can deliver breakthrough improvements in any business sector or environment. Specifically, participants will be able to;

  • Explain the Five Principles of Lean and the importance of Flow
  • Identify the eight sources of waste (muda) in their area of responsibility
  • Understand the importance of Value Stream Mapping
  • Write effective problem statements using the 5W2H approach
  • Construct SIPOC, Process Flow and Spaghetti Maps
  • Conduct Cause & Effect exercises and apply the “5 Whys”
  • Understand the application of the Pareto Principle
  • Rationalize a process using the Harrington 12-Step method
  • Better support and participate in Kaizen Events
  • Encourage workplace organization including 5S, visual workplace & standardized work
  • Understand the importance of “managing change” in a Service environment

 

 

Outcomes

The overall goal is that participants in the Lean Yellow Belt will not only be more inspired to support continuous improvement but also be able to apply some basic quality tools in their area of operation, identify improvement opportunities, and more effectively support and participate in improvement events and activities. Over the long term, Yellow Belts would be encouraged to collaborate with Green Belts and Black Belts in support of ongoing improvement projects and activities.
