Being a good strategist and leader are the first steps toward becoming a role model of human resources leadership. To become a successful strategic business partner one must demonstrate the ability to participate in and contribute to organizational success and strategy by objectively defining and assessing all facets of the organization, understanding the current climate in which it operates, and visualizing the future.

In this practical session participants will learn and be able to apply the principles of effective leadership and the elements of organizational strategic planning so they are equipped to be active contributors to the strategic planning process within their organization.

Prerequisites

Must be admitted to the Advanced Certificate in People Management to register for this program.

Outcomes

On completion of this course, participants will:

  • Understand the role of a strategic leader, its competencies and how to shift from being known as “the policy police” to an active voice at the leadership table
  • Recognize the difference between leadership and management and understand how to balance people vs tasks
  • Describe an objective approach to the strategic planning process by understanding where the organization is currently sitting in the market place, the view of itself, its future and how they compete
  • Understand how to set goals at a senior level and cascade the goals to the field level to ensure organizational success
  • Have discussed a variety of methods to measure goals, watch for barriers to goal achievement and keep the momentum of accomplishment
