Understanding the key principles of design is an essential foundation to good mobile application. This course will help students understand how users move through a mobile application. It will also teach the concepts of usability and accessibility. Topics will include colour theory, alignment, size considerations and layout techniques for creating mobile applications that are intuitive and pleasant to use.
Students will also review and evaluate one another’s designs to develop an intuition for the user friendliness of an application interface.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Recognize the essentials of good mobile application design such as intuitive navigation and minimized data input
- Construct a mobile app layout applying basic design principles and solve common design problems
- Apply colour visually and select high contrast colour schemes appropriate to the specific design
- Recognize and use appropriate interface element sizing and typography
- Determine effective positioning of elements on a mobile screen with respect to hand position control
