This course will provide students with a solid foundation in the basics of the Adobe Photoshop application. Topics will include a general overview of the digital graphics, the navigational interfaces, and the file management requirements for Web applications.  Students will mock-up an image of a Web interface/page, which will be used as a design platform in the HTML/CSS courses. Students will also review and evaluate one another’s designs to develop an intuition for the user friendliness of a web application interface.

Prerequisites

  • Computer and internet access at home
  • The Photoshop software.
Outcomes

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the different digital graphic formats - bitmap versus vector graphics
  • Work with the primary elements of the Photoshop interface - the Toolbox and Palettes
  • Understand image resolution and size
  • Use different selection methods 
  • Create and understand Type
  • Use Layer Styles for maximum effect
  • Organize content into layers and manipulate those layers
  • Use Vector Shapes to create Web site graphics
  • Understand Adjustment Layers
  • Create and use Alpha Channels
