Formerly DPS 16486 Project Management VII: Case Analysis

This course focuses on the "real world" of project management and examines a variety of case studies, highlighting industry best practice, common pitfalls, and some classic failures. Students discuss and analyze what went right or wrong in each of these scenarios and identify the key factors contributing to the success and failure of the project. The goal of the course is to help students develop strategies to effectively lead projects and avoid potential risks.

This course is based on, or refers to, the PMI™ Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide (PMBOK Guide). Note: PMI™ and the PMBOK Guide™ are trademarks owned by the Project Management institute.

 

Prerequisites

This is the capstone course in the Project Management Program.  The University recommends that students take this course as one of the final components of their diploma requirements.

  • Quality Management
  • Procurement & Contract Law
  • Effective Project Reporting and Communication
  • Planning, Estimating & Scheduling
  • Risk & Decision Analysis
Outcomes

On completion of this course, students will:

  • Apply knowledge and practices, acquired through the previous level of the program, strategically to the “real world” of project management, in planning, organizing, motivating, directing, and controlling;
  • Recognize the broad and flexible application of project management to other management disciplines and function of work;
  • Connect the value of research and critical thinking to best practice approaches for project management on a national and international level;
  • Recognize the value of project management practice to successful project management;
  • Apply a lesson-learned framework to guide future project success.

NOTE: No textbook is required for this course; however, student must purchase simulation software. More information provided on Nexus.
