Formerly DPS 16276 Project Management II: Quality (18 hours)

The history of quality management, from mere inspection at the turn of the last century to Total Quality Management (TQM), and its modern branded interpretations such as Six Sigma, has led to the development of essential processes, ideas, theories and tools that are central to organizational development, change management, and the performance improvements that are generally desired for individuals, teams and organizations. This course will introduce and evaluate quality concepts and how they apply in a Project Management context.

This course is based on, or refers to, the PMI™ Project Management Body of Knowledge Guide (PMBOK Guide). Note: PMI™ and the PMBOK Guide™ are trademarks owned by the Project Management institute.

Prerequisites

  • Project Management Fundamentals
Outcomes

On completion of this course, students will:

  • Understand the major issues, concepts, and techniques of quality management;
  • Appreciate and be familiar with a general management perspective on quality;
  • Understand the tools and techniques of quality planning, including the creation of a quality plan, the development of quality elements in a WBS, the cost/benefit analysis, familiarization with flow charting, and the development of checklists;
  • Understand the tools and techniques of quality assurance including the creation of process quality audits and familiarization with quality validation testing;
  • Understand the tools and techniques of quality control including process and project inspection and tracking methodology, tracking project performance, and implementing corrective actions.
