JavaScript is the third fundamental technology all web developers require. This hands-on course builds from the HTML5/CSS3 course and focuses on topics such as forms, images, and the Document Object Model (DOM). It will introduce the code conventions and rules of the JavaScript language. Once the basics are covered, the course will explore ways of delivering dynamic content according to user platform needs.

Topics will include scripting various types of JavaScript features, changing CSS properties, and working with JQuery libraries. At the end of the course advanced topics such as advanced JQuery and browser control will be covered. Students will create highly interactive HTML5 content using JavaScript.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of client-side JavaScript, including core programming practices, constructs, and syntax
  • Debug JavaScript and apply common scripting techniques
  • Describe the Document Object Model (DOM)
  • Develop basic web pages with interactive content
  • Make programmatic decisions based on user input
  • Create and read browser cookies
  • Understand the difference between session and persistent cookies
  • Create a JavaScript based “shopping cart”
  • Change CSS properties with JavaScript
  • Detect information about the user’s browser environment
  • Dynamically change HTML content
  • Integrate JavaScript functions with JQuery
  • Work with JQuery plugins
  • Access the Browser DOM more effectively using JQuery
  • Combine JQuery and JavaScript
  • Create more streamlined, effective JavaScript
  • Use Regular Expressions
  • Use new HTML5 API's for more engaging Web pages
  • Work with the HTML5 Canvas element using JavaScript
