Meet Sonny Primolo, Communications Coordinator at The Winnipeg Foundation. Sonny graduated from UWPACE with a PR, Marketing & Strategic Communications Management Diploma in 2017. We asked him to reflect on how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted his work-life.
"Life as a communication professional in the charitable sector during our current pandemic has been a challenge.
Thanks to the proactive nature of my organization, I have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to socially isolate and work from home. Although highly dependent on the strength of my home WI-FI signal, secured remote access has made my day-to-day responsibilities a possibility. Thanks to several online platforms, my team has managed to work together effectively through recurring virtual meetings and other online collaboration software.
It pains me every day to see our city, country, and world struggle through this situation. However, I am thankful for the opportunity to work and support essential charitable organizations that continue to serve the needs of our community.
On a personal level, I would be lying if I said that I do not worry from time to time. My fiance is a front-line healthcare worker and having her go to the hospital each day brings a new sense of fear with each shift. Although I am fortunate to work from home, many are not. We all need to work apart to get through this together. Please, for the safety of our community... #stayhome."
