Using a case study approach, the Construction Specific Project Management course will apply and expand on the project management theory and model learned in other courses to examine the application of project management within the specific field of construction for all scales of projects. Students will learn specific techniques and issues within the construction industry related to project communication, procurement, quality management, risk analysis, and health and safety, using a practical example under the guidance of an experienced professional.

Prerequisites

  • Construction Estimating, Cost, and Planning
  • Risk & Decision Analysis
  • Procurement & Contract Law

Each course fee is paid for at the time of registration.

Outcomes

On completion of this course, students should be able to: 

  1. Create reports, communication plans, stakeholder engagement communication and presentations that are construction oriented and will effectively communicate specific to construction, engineering, and architecture. 

  1. Employ the information learned in contract law to plan, execute, control, and close procurement-related contracts in relation to construction, engineering, and  

  1. Employ the information learned in quality management to enhance the student's ability to plan, execute, and control a project in relation to quality with the mindset of construction, engineering, and architecture. 

  1. Employ the information learned in risk decision & analysis to create a Risk Management plan, execute and control the plan and assist with the other areas of the project in risk assessment in relation to construction, engineering, and architecture. 

  1. Employ the information learned in health and safety to create a Safety Management Plan, execute and control the plan throughout the lifespan of a construction, engineering, or architecture project. 

  1. Assess the performance of a construction project and create proposals to respond to performance concerns with justified and viable solutions.
