Dear Members of the PACE Community,
As of this past Monday, UWinnipeg made the decision to close access to all buildings until further notice and sent a university-wide communication, indicating that all undergraduate instruction will continue online until at least September. We know that you might be wondering how this affects you, as PACE students. As we face this public health crisis together, we are faced with uncertainty - and the considerable unease brought on by uncertainty. Like many of you, we have been intently following reports of the development of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and considering the many ways in which its future course might alter our lives and the lives of those around us.
The decision to move to online instruction was difficult, however necessary. The goal of these changes is to minimize the number of people gathering people in groups and spending prolonged time in close proximity with each other in spaces such as classrooms. This decision adheres to the recommendations of leading health officials and government directives on how to limit the spread of COVID-19 and are also consistent with similar decisions made by our peer institutions.
At this time, we do not know how long these changes will be in effect. For now, we must all be patient and work together. We will continue to follow the directives of federal, provincial, and municipal health authorities and will return to class once it is deemed safe to do so. We know that learning remotely is a significantly different experience than what we imagined for this term. We’ve been impressed with your flexibility and creativity through these challenging times. These past few weeks been a powerful reminder of just how connected we are to one another—and how our choices today determine our options tomorrow.
At some point, this too shall pass. But for now, we don’t know when. For regular updates and additional resources from PACE during this time, please visit our dedicated COVID-19 webpage. Thank you for your patience and your resilience as we all learn to temper increased distance with compassion and care for one another.
With appreciation,
PACE Management Team
