“PACE helped me to achieve my goals with outstanding instructors, compact beneficial courses relevant to Network Security courses, equipped labs, and hands-on experience,” says Golchin Jalalat, who earned her Network Security Diploma from UWinnipeg PACE in 2020. “I believe the most significant feature of the PACE programs is that they cover the most updated and recent techniques and content with various hands-on and practical activities and assignments.”
“Once you’ve graduated you’ll have the knowledge and skills you need plus the specific techniques to be seen and succeed in interviews,” says Golchin. “Literally, I got all the theoretical knowledge plus practical experience at PACE.”
Prior to joining PACE, Golchin earned her Master’s degree in IT Engineering (E-Commerce) from Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) in Iran.
“Together with the management courses in my program, the job preparation courses, like the Resume Building & Job Search Techniques course, are very helpful for getting a job after graduation. After building my new resume with the same skills and education as my older version, I was invited for three interviews in a two-week duration,” says Golchin. “It is an honor for me as PACE alumni to say I was able to get a higher-level job as an IT/Network Instructor before I graduated.”
Golchin worked in that role for approximately two years before accepting her current position as Network Administrator at Reimer World Corp. which is one of the largest privately held national transportation companies in Canada.
Some of Golchin’s responsibilities include supporting aVMware vSphere environment with over 30 VM servers, administration of Microsoft Server domain, DHCP, DNS, File, and print servers within the corporate head office and 50+ locations as well as configuring and supporting Cisco Firewalls on ASAs, Routers, and switches in multiple locations across Canada. Also, she is the IBM i administrator as the main server at Reimer and earned the System Operator for IBMi badge and 3 levels of IBM badge in Predictive Analytics Modeler.
Golchin says she learned many valuable lessons from her experience at PACE.
“Be a good listener, pay attention, work hard, ask for help if you struggle, help others if you can, build your network, and always be kind and honest.”
Her advice for others interested in taking this program is not to be afraid.
“My advice to you is: do not be afraid to achieve your dreams, no matter what your circumstances or challenges are. I did it, you can do it as well, just get started!”
In addition to her position at Reimer World Corp., Golchin became a candidate for Empower Women Awards in Manitoba in October 2022 and was appointed to be a member of the Manitoba Women’s Advisory Council by the Minister of Family and Status of Women for the Province of Manitoba.
