The terrain of the workplace is changing. Workplaces are increasingly called upon to support employees who may be struggling with mental health concerns. Employers can be hesitant to engage with employees about their mental health for fear of saying the wrong thing or not understanding employer or employee obligations. In some scenarios, workplace cultures and mishandling of mental health can exacerbate issues for employees who may be struggling. So, how can employers create a better culture for managing mental health in the workplace?

In this 2-day course, you will explore unhelpful myths, engage in personal and professional reflection, and learn about best practices for creating healthy workplaces, including early identification and how to approach conversations, create reasonable accommodation, and develop support plans.

Emerge from this course with a firm foundation in how to help those who struggle with mental health concerns in the workplace.

Each course fee is paid for at the time of registration.

Outcomes

On completion of this course, you’ll:

  • Have a better understanding of mental health and mental illness.
  • Identify personal and professional factors that both help and hinder support.
  • Understand reasonable accommodation variables including employer and employee obligations including Human Rights.
  • Develop methods of approaching people who may be struggling.
  • Explore modified work and return-to-work Strategies.
