Career & Employment Coach Certificate

This program offers intensive, hands-on training that builds and enhances the ability of participants  to assist unemployed individuals. This program is perfect for professionals already in the field looking to enhance their knowledge, as well as people transitioning into the employment coach field.

The certificate is made up of four 2-day workshops, with correlating assignments, all delivered in an online in the winter and spring 2021. Earn your certficate online in just four months.

The Career and Employment Coach Certificate is a joint program between the Winnipeg Transition Centre (WTC) and The University of Winnipeg Professional, Applied & Continuing Education.

Tuition & Fees

Registration fees are charged individually for each 2-day workshop:

  • Non-Profit Rate - $425 plus 5% GST per workshop
  • Private/Public Sector Rate - $600 plus 5% GST per workshop

Individuals must successfully complete all four workshops to receive the FINAL certificate.

Duration

This certifcate can be completed in as little as four months or completed at your own pace.

The next block of 2-day workshops is offered between January 28 and April 23, 2021.

Each module is a 2-day workshop with live online sessions between 9am and 4pm on workshop days.

This program is offered in virtual online format with live sessions led by the Winnipeg Transition Centre.

Objectives & Outcomes

OBJECTIVES

To develop and practice the coaching skills required to assist individuals or groups with employment transition skills.

OUTCOMES

  • Develop resources, coaching skills and peer network contacts
  • Be exposed to effective solutions for dealing with difficult participants and situations
  • Understand how to work "with" an individual, not "for" an individual
  • Promote creative “out of the box” thinking

Admission Requirements

  • Be a high school graduate or hold a Mature Status Diploma.
    • MUST provide High School Transcript or recognized equivalent GED or Mature Grade 12 Diploma.

OR

  • Be 18 years of age or older and have completed 90 hours of coursework or more at a recognized post-secondary institution (including UWPACE) with minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
    • MUST provide an official transcript for all previous post-secondary study (including university, CEGEP, or private college).

English Language Requirements

Applicants whose previous education was completed outside of Canada and where English may or may not have been the medium of instruction, must submit proof of meeting one of the accepted English language proficiency measures. Download the UWPACE English Language Requirements (PDF) for additional English proficiency tests and programs and waiver options for the English language requirement.

Modules

The certificate is made up of the following four 2-day workshops

  • Career Planning Coach
  • Interview Skills Coach
  • Job Search Coach
  • Resumé Development Coach

Individuals must successfully complete all four workshops to receive the final certificate. Workshops may be taken in any order.

Career Planning Coach - 2 days

Learn how to assist individuals to identify their motivated skills, values and gifts to develop an effective career action plan. Employ alternative coaching techniques to deal with difficult career coaching scenarios.

Interview Skills Coach - 2 days

Employ successful methods of coaching people to gain confidence and overcome nervousness in an interview. Identify three major types of interview questions and learn suggestions for answering "tough" questions.

Job Search Coach- 2 days

Use proven methods to assist individuals to be proactive and creative in their job search. Promote creative "out of the box" thinking for individuals who are "stuck" to increase a successful outcome.

Resumé Development Coach - 2 days

Learn how to assist individuals identify skills to meet specific job goals using nine easy steps in creating an effective resume. Develop coaching techniques to draw out and maximize skills, accomplishments and talents.

Upon successful completion of this program, participants will receive a joint Certificate of Completion from the University of Winnipeg and Winnipeg Transition Centre.
