The Business Intelligence Certificate equips professionals with the technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills needed to transform organizational data into meaningful insights. As organizations collect more data than ever before, the ability to interpret, model, and communicate that data has become essential. This program gives students a strong foundation in BI concepts—including data preparation, dimensional modeling, ETL processes, analytics, and dashboard development—using modern tools and industry best practices.

Through four integrated online courses, students learn how to define business problems, gather and analyze requirements, design BI architectures, prepare and model data, and develop visualizations that support data-driven decisions. Emphasis is placed on translating complex information into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders across the organization.

Designed for working professionals, the part-time online format provides flexibility while delivering rigorous, applied training. Graduates will be prepared for roles such as Business Intelligence Analyst, BI Specialist, BI Developer, or Data Analyst, supporting organizations across sectors in making smarter, evidence-based decisions.

Delivered fully online in a a part-time format, this 144-hour certificate includes four core courses.

Who Attends

This certificate is designed for professionals who work with business processes, data, or technology and want to develop strong business intelligence capabilities. Ideal students have experience in business domains such as finance, supply chain, accounting, marketing, or HR, or in technical domains such as software development, QA, customer support, or IT operations. Students should be comfortable working with technology, have foundational computer skills, and possess a strong interest in learning BI tools and data modeling techniques.

Program Objectives

The Business Intelligence Certificate is designed to equip professionals with the technical and analytical skills needed to transform organizational data into meaningful insights that drive decision-making. Through an integrated curriculum, students learn how to identify business problems that can be addressed with BI solutions, capture and analyze requirements, design and build data models, and prepare data using modern ETL and integration techniques. The program emphasizes real-world applications, enabling students to develop dashboards, KPIs, and visualizations that communicate insights clearly and support operational and strategic business decisions. By the end of the certificate, students will be able to apply BI tools, methods, and best practices to help organizations improve performance, predict trends, and support data-driven planning.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:

  • Identify business problems that can be addressed through business intelligence solutions.

  • Plan, elicit, analyze, and document requirements for BI projects.

  • Use requirements to support BI package selection or custom solution development.

  • Define and develop business intelligence technical architectures.

  • Understand and apply Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) and integration techniques.

  • Understand and define tabular and multi-dimensional data models.

  • Explain platform, product ownership, and application models for BI deployment and sustainment.

  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and other metrics for business analysis.

  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications.

  • Develop reports, dashboards, and controls that allow drilling, slicing, filtering, and interactive analysis.

  • Produce stakeholder-focused dashboards and reporting materials to support data-driven decisions.

Admission Requirements

  • Be a high school graduate or hold a Mature Status Diploma.
    • MUST provide High School Transcript or recognized equivalent GED or Mature Grade 12 Diploma.

OR

  • Be 18 years of age or older and have completed 90 hours of coursework or more at a recognized post-secondary institution (including UWPACE) with minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
    • MUST provide an official transcript for all previous post-secondary study (including university, CEGEP, or private college).

English Language Requirement

Applicants whose previous education was completed outside of Canada and where English may or may not have been the medium of instruction, must submit proof of meeting one of the accepted English language proficiency measures.
