Human Resource Management Diploma (Part-time)

Become a leader with this 4X award-winning and CPHR-accredited program that distinguishes itself from other academic competitors by layering traditional elements of human resource management with a heavy emphasis on leadership, concrete business tools, and effective communication tools.

With content aligned to industry-recognized standards and best professional practice, graduates enter the workplace with the skills for success. Students also have the opportunity to obtain their WHMIS certification through the Managing Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment course.

Graduates of this program earn the Human Resource Management Diploma and WHMIS certification. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates become eligible for their CPHR designation.

In Canada, average annual salary for CPHR designated professionals is $91,000 according to an August, 2021 national survey by CPHR Canada.

    Our part-time Human Resource Diploma program students have the opportunity to participate in internships!

    PACE is the first school in the province to offer part-time students this type of opportunity. Iinternships are your gateway to (re)entry into the HR field and provides an opportunity to develop hands-on experience and get a real-world sense of the industry. It will also help you gain confidence in the skills you've developed throughout your studies.

    Objectives & Outcomes

    Objectives

    This program is for individuals interested in:

    • Entering or re-entering the workforce
    • Exploring a change in employment focus or career transition
    • Moving into a supervisory or human resource management position
    • Pursuing a program of professional development leading to a formal diploma
    • Securing essential workplace knowledge and communication skills to complement an academic degree.

    Outcomes

    • Work in a variety of human resource positions and be able to assume greater levels of responsibility as they grow in their human resource capability.
    • Understand and comply with the employer's legislative and legal obligations including workplace health and safety regulation, WHMIS legislation, the Worker's Compensation Act, payroll compliance legislation, and employment standards.
    • Conduct organizational needs assessments, analyze and modify organizational staff development plans and develop effective recruitment strategies to attract talent that satisfies the organizational objectives.
    •  Foster a work environment that promotes productivity and employee satisfaction
    • Evaluate performance and communicate performance issues in a manner that encourages responsible and corrective action and manage disciplinary action proactively and thoroughly.
    • Understand the elements of a total compensation package that align with an organizational recruitment and retention strategy, develop compensation policies and procedures, procure benefits, and analyze employee and organizational pension requirements

    Admission Requirements

    • Be a high school graduate or hold a Mature Status Diploma.
      • MUST provide High School Transcript or recognized equivalent GED or Mature Grade 12 Diploma.

    OR

    • Be 18 years of age or older and have completed 90 hours of coursework or more at a recognized post-secondary institution (including UWPACE) with minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
      • MUST provide an official transcript for all previous post-secondary study (including university, CEGEP, or private college).

    English Language Requirements

    Applicants whose previous education was completed outside of Canada and where English may or may not have been the medium of instruction, must submit proof of meeting one of the accepted English language proficiency measures.

    Accreditation

    HR Program Officially Accredited by Provincial Certifying Body (CPHR Manitoba)

    What does the CPHR accreditation mean for graduates of our programs?

    Graduates in good standing will be eligible to obtain the Certified Human Resources Professional (CPHR) designation without having to write the National Knowledge Exam (NKE).

    Graduates can apply for an exam waiver following graduation and once approved, will only be required to complete the necessary professional work experience in order to become designated.

    • Applicants must be a member in good standing with CPHR Manitoba;
    • Application for an NKE waiver must be made within one year of graduating from PACE;
    • At this time, previous graduates of PACE may be eligible to apply for an NKE waiver depending on program eligibility;

    Courses & Descriptions

    Required Courses

    The program consists of two components: Core Course (504 hours) and an Elective Course (36 hours),

    Students may take courses in any order as long as they have the required prerequisites, and they have up to five years to complete the 540 hours of study. Students may condense their studies by taking more than one course per term, or by enrolling in a full-time program.

    Writing at University  (FREE!)

    Are you looking to sharpen your writing skills? This half-day seminar is exactly what you need to master the art of academic writing.

    From understanding assignment guidelines and outlining assignments to finding information and citing it correctly, this short course gives you the tools you need to master writing in an academic environment

    Learning Techniques ($50)

    Set yourself up for success with the Learning Techniques Seminar (DPS 15179) and learn how to learn! In this 3 hour online seminar, you gain the tools you need to be successful with their current studies and with lifelong learning.

    Students gain an understanding of their own learning style and of how the learning process works. In addition, students learn to apply practical strategies for goal setting, managing their time, reading texts, enhancing memory, taking notes, writing essays and studying for exams.

    PACE highly recommends that you complete the Learning Techniques Seminar to help enhance your education at PACE if you:

    • Do not have post-secondary education
    • Have been out of school for a number of years
    • Are new to Canada and/or Canadian post-secondary education
