“I chose UWinnipeg because a couple of my trusted friends went through the Project Management program at PACE and highly recommended I take the program there,” says Andrew Graham, who earned his Project Management Diploma from UWinnipeg PACE in 2021. Although he already held the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation, he chose PACE to enhance his knowledge and practical skills in project management and business.
Andrew says several aspects of the PACE program set it apart from others.
“The courses were delivered by industry recognized professionals that are active in the field,” says Andrew and added that the inclusion of management studies to earn multiple certifications during the 1-year program was impactful.
“PACE prepared me for the Canadian workforce with applicable and practical tools gained from all courses,” says Andrew. “Understanding cultural dimensions and the technique and strategies one has to use to build targeted resumes and conduct job searching activities were all new to me and played a significant role in helping me navigate the job market with improved public speaking skills and confidence.”
Upon graduation, Andrew found a position as an Asset Management Consultant for an asset management solutions firm, before becoming a Microsoft Evangelist at Bloom Software. His role combines executing business development and account management activities like managing relationships with clients and stakeholders, generating and tracking opportunities, and communicating and promoting Bloom’s Microsoft 365 services.
“The combination of project management and business courses in my program enhanced my skillsets to become more dynamic in taking on a role that incorporates both,” says Andrew.
Prior to studying at UWinnipeg PACE, Andrew held a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from The University of the Commonwealth Caribbean in Jamaica.
Andrew's advice to aspiring PACE program participants is straightforward yet crucial: take the program seriously and embrace it as a transformative journey.
“The Project Management program is not a walk in the park, you will have to take it very seriously,” says Andrew. “You will find yourself doing project management activities throughout the program and in your daily life. In other words, you will learn and apply new knowledge instantly as you progress whether it's scheduling group work (teamwork and collaboration) or meeting deadlines (deliverables).”
Despite completing his entire program online during the pandemic, Andrew says engaging and collaborating with people from all over the world and sharing culture and experiences was the most memorable aspect of this program.
“There was a beautiful sense of kinship and comradery as we supported each other throughout the program,” he says. “Great friendships were formed with over 30 people from over 16 countries within a year. I have never experienced anything like this before.”

Project Management Post-Degree Diploma for International Students
“I chose PACE because this 12-month diploma program was a perfect fit to advance my technical expertise and marketability in the field of data analytics,” says Mahesh Kumar Batti Venkata Naga, who earned his Predictive Analytics Diploma from UWinnipeg PACE in 2022. “The post-degree diploma program provided me with the perfect opportunity in taking my data science skills to the next level and explore the field of predictive analytics.
Prior to studying at UWinnipeg PACE, Mahesh held an Integrated Honors Dual Degree with a Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Science from Birla Institute of Technology and Science in India.
“The program challenged me to think critically and creatively, and I was able to develop a strong foundation in data science concepts. says Mahesh. “This perfectly crafted 1-year PACE course helped me fill in the gap in my current skill set, and to climb up my career ladder, with a minimal break in pursuing relevant education.”
Mahesh landed a role as an Information Technology Consultant at IntegrationWorx Ltd, a firm that develops custom data integration and data management solutions for cloud-based, on-premise and hybrid environments across a wide range of business problems and industries shortly after finishing his program.
“I was able to apply my new skills and knowledge to my work, and contribute to important projects,” says Mahesh. “As part of my work, I primarily design, develop, integrate, and implement information systems business solutions with a primary focus on data integration, data analytics and data science.”
Mahesh says he was well prepared for this role because PACE instructors discussed the real-world scenarios in data science through out the program.
“I was able to apply my existing knowledge to new domains, and I gained hands-on experience working with cutting-edge tools and technologies,” he says.
“My experience at The University of Winnipeg has been transformative, and I am grateful for the excellent education and support provided by the University of Winnipeg's PACE program and management, which has played a vital role in my career progression,” says Mahesh.
“I chose PACE because I was looking for a course that could take me to the next level in my career,” says Sandra Alencar, who earned her Human Resource Management Diploma from UWinnipeg PACE in 2021. “I had some experience in human resources and wanted to get the education behind it.”
Prior to studying at PACE, Sandra held a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics from the – Federal University of Ceara, in Brazil.
Sandra completed her program with PACE online during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"It took resilience and courage to walk through all that and hold on until the end,” says Sandra. “It was worth it. At the time the world was facing its worst moment, we were together giving each other support to move on and pursue our dream.”
Sandra completed the 4-week internship at the end of program. By the end of her four weeks, she’d landed three job offers. Sandra is a Talent Acquisition Coordinator at Canadian Western Bank, a diversified financial services organization providing specialized services in banking, trust and wealth management.
“My job is to help find top talented candidates to be part of our workforce,” she says. Her job includes full-cycle recruitment from communicating with candidates and reviewing resumes, to checking references and communicating with the hiring manager.
“Even though I had some experience from my home country, PACE gave me the tools to succeed in the Canadian market. As an international student that was very crucial,” she says. “When I was a student, we had a subject named Recruitment and Selection, the instructor was a very experienced recruiter that shared valuable knowledge with us. Even today I am able to apply their lessons in my job.”
“PACE was a life-changing experience for me. It was my steppingstone into the Canadian job market and thanks to the great instructors, amazing material, and all the companionship we developed with our classmates, I was able to make my biggest dream come true: start my career as a recruiter in Canada.”
“PACE was the start of everything,” says Daniel Strehl, who earned his Project Management Diploma from UWinnipeg PACE in 2021. “From building a solid network to polishing my previous knowledge in project management, and providing me with the opportunity to attend an internship experience.”
Daniel completed an internship at the City of Winnipeg to finish off his 12-month program before heading into the job market.
“This experience was crucial for adding Canadian work experience to my resume, which allowed me to be at least one step ahead of the competition for job positions,” says Daniel. “The internship allowed me to understand better the work environment and what was expected from me in future positions.”
“The PACE course is aligned with the market best practices, and the body of teachers is well prepared to foster students to excel in a competitive work market,” says Daniel.
Daniel landed a role as Project Manager at Manitoba Hydro after his internship, a provincial Crown Corporation and one of Canada's largest integrated electricity and natural gas distribution utilities. Before studying at PACE, Daniel earned a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from Centro Universitario Euro-Americano in Brazil.
“My experience at PACE was vital to position myself for my current role,” says Daniel. “I am responsible for managing all project and integration-related tasks, including initiating, planning, executing, and closing multiple small, medium and large-sized projects. I am also responsible for guiding and overseeing multiple project teams.”
Daniel says his most valuable lesson from PACE is that your network reflects your values and efforts.
“The course will demand dedication and much work, but the experience that you will go through is worth every second of your time,” he says. “PACE can offer you the means and ways to become or set you towards the best version of yourself.”
“I wanted to learn while still have a taste of the professional life that I was aspiring to get into after school. PACE was this school for me,” says Felista Karanja, who graduated from UWinnipeg PACE’s Project Management Diploma in 2019. Felista previously earned a BA in International Relations and an MA in Peace and Conflict Studies.
“Honestly, I have been in three different universities but I cannot compare my experience at PACE with any other. I learned so much in a very short period. My professional skills were sharpened and the standard of my work has improved greatly,” she says.
Felista says PACE prepared her for her current role as a Project Manager by creating a professional environment throughout the program. With courses in resume building and the Career Hub, along with lunch hour seminar with alumni and working professionals, Felista says she was ready to face the job market after graduation.
In her work Felista’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordinating project communication within three project streams, updating project documents, submitting status reports, monitoring risks, and updating the project schedule.
“Striving to deliver high quality work at all times has now become my motto. Also, the soft skills that I learned while at PACE are invaluable. These skills have been beneficial even in my current role working as part of a diverse project team,” she says.
Felista’s advice for others considering studying at UW PACE, “Go for it, it is worth it!”
"PACE provided practical training in project management with industry-recognized professionals as instructors,” says Yanique Brighton. Yanique earned her Project Management Diploma from UWinnipeg PACE and was able to secure her current role as Senior HR Business Partner at Lifetouch shortly afterwards.
“Several factors were taken into consideration when I selected UWinnipeg PACE as the institution of study,” says Yanique, who also holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies from The University of the West Indies, Mona in Jamaica prior to enrolling at UWinnipeg PACE.
“Experienced instructors with vast industry experience, a recognized institution, the internship component, a central location in the heart of the city, and earning double certification in one program. I was able to complement my human resources experience and training with project management knowledge.”
Yanique says one of the most valuable lessons from her PACE experience came from the writing courses like Effective Written Communication and Effective Project Reporting.
“These courses are designed not only to enhance one’s writing skills but to develop one’s attention to details. The courses taught me to be mindful of my audience when communicating.”
As PACE alumni, Yanique is giving back to her university community. “After completing the program, I had the opportunity of being asked by the school to tutor/mentor a group of students in effective project reporting and it was an absolute pleasure."

With a Bachelor of Business Administration from Universidade Anhembi Morumbi and a Post Degree Specialization in Corporate Management and over 20 years of experience in sales, Edvaldo wanted to expand his horizons and understand the buying process more in depth.
He says the course duration, subjects covered, structure, and the positive reviews about how knowledgeable the instructors are were also key factors in choosing PACE.
“It’s a great opportunity – courses have high quality content and professional instructors,” he says, adding that taking part in an internship kick-started his professional Canadian experience. “It is possible to restart your career in a new country if you have the right mindset and can count with professional and competent help,” Edvaldo says.
“The effective oral and written communication classes alongside leadership development and the strategic planning courses were absolutely crucial in preparing me for my current role,” says Eddie, who juggles two professional roles.
Edvaldo is Training Manager at SkipTheDishes, where he is a key member of the Live Operations Training Team. In his second role, Edvaldo has gone from student to instructor at PACE teaching courses for the Marketing Management Diploma and the Public Relations, Marketing and Strategic Communication Diploma.
